Supported by Special Foundation of President of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, the Ebola virus immunogold rapid test strips and the Ebola virus antibody ELISA kit developed by the research groups led by Prof. Zhengli Shi and Prof. Bin Yan in Center for Emerging Infectious Diseases of Wuhan Institute of Virology, CAS, have been recently verified in a P4 Laboratory in Lyon of France.
Through the cooperation with the P4 Laboratory in Lyon of France, the research staff of WIV detected and verified the newly developed Ebola test kit. Experiments testified that both the Ebola virus immunogold rapid test strips and the Ebola virus antibody ELISA kit could quickly and efficiently detect the antigen and antibody of Ebola virus.
The Ebola virus disease, for which there is no approved treatment, threatening human’s life and health seriously, has a mortality rate which can be as high as 90% among human, especially in West Africa. According to WHO statistics, until 23rd August 2015, a total of 28005 human cases of Ebola virus infection have been reported in Guinea, Liberia and Sierra Leone, and 11287 people were killed by the disease. With the help of Ebola virus immunogold rapid test strips developed by WIV, one can detect the virus in less than 15 minutes. The Ebola virus immunogold rapid test strips, rapid and sensitive, which can detect the virus without the reliance on any instruments or equipment, can be widely applied in clinical and field practices of inspection and quarantine. The development of Ebola test kit can provide an important guarantee for the surveillance, diagnose and control of the Ebola virus.
